The Right Reverend Helen Kennedy

Diocese of Qu’appelle

Bishop Helen moved to Canada from Nuneaton, England in 1999, completed her theological training at the University of Winnipeg and then the Canadian Mennonite University. She was ordained in 2007 at Saint Benedict’s Table in Winnipeg, Diocese of Rupert’s Land. Initially, she was the Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Diocese and served half-time in a parish, then becoming the full-time incumbent of St George’s, Transcona. During her time in Rupert’s Land, she participated in many leadership committees giving her a broad experience of diocesan life and governance. She was formative in establishing CLAY, the Lutheran/Anglican Youth gathering, and continues to keep young people and youth spiritual formation as a priority.

An episcopal election brought Bishop Helen to Regina late in 2021, and she was consecrated in January 2022. She is one of the bishops affectionately known as the ‘plage bishops’, having only the minimal number of participants required for a consecration.

Bishop Helen is married to Stephen, and between them, they have five grown children all raising their own families. Jed and Hetty are their two Border Terriers, who make sure good long walks happen. In her spare time, Bishop Helen has taken up horse riding as a new challenge. When not needing to be challenged, she rides an Indian Scout motorbike and also is an accomplished quilter and knitter. Her spouse is an excellent chef, so good food and a gin and tonic round out her life.
